2011 Health Care Heroes

WHAT IS THE MOST MEMORABLE THING THAT HAS HAPPENED TO YOU ON THE JOB? Watching a group of people come together as a team to meet the needs of a patient is a positive memory I have seen in many contexts.

Dr. Scott West, ThriveLogic (Nashville TMS)

Medical director, ThriveLogic (Nashville TMS)

IF YOU HAD TO WORK ANOTHER JOB IN HEALTH CARE, WHAT WOULD IT BE AND WHY? If I could not do what I do now, I would want to find
a way to help the military deal with psychiatric issues in military personnel.

WHAT ADVANCEMENT OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS HAS MADE YOUR JOB EASIER? The greater variety of somatic treatments, which allows for more options for patients depending on their clinical needs, has made my job easier.

WHAT IS ONE THING THOSE INTERESTED IN ENTERING THE HEALTH CARE FIELD SHOULD KEEP IN MIND? People with illnesses are individuals, and one treatment does not work for all patients.

WHAT IS YOUR MOST UNHEALTHY HABIT THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO KICK? I would like to get back into the habit of routine exercise.

IF YOU ARE OR WERE A PARENT, WOULD YOU ENCOURAGE OR DISSUADE YOUR CHILDREN ON A CAREER IN HEALTH CARE? WHY OR WHY NOT? I have encouraged children to find a career they enjoy. It does not matter whether it is in healthcare.

WHAT IS THE NEXT HEALTH ISSUE OR GREAT MEDICAL ADVANCEMENT WE WILL ALL BE TALKING ABOUT? I believe the issue on the horizon is “aging with grace and dignity” and how we can make the choices for ourselves and family that fit this concept.

WHAT CHALLENGES HAVE YOU HELPED YOUR COMPANY OR ORGANIZATION OVERCOME? I continue to speak and write to help destigmatize mental illness.
